“Ms. Vanessa?” a nurse called. “The doctor is ready.”
Ethan stood immediately.
“I’m coming in,” he said. “That’s my son.”
The ultrasound room was cool and dim.
The monitor flickered to life.
A grainy image appeared.
Vanessa smiled.
Ethan leaned forward, pride radiating off him.
“Everything looks good, right?” he asked. “That’s my boy.”
“As for the kids… if she wants them, she can take them. Saves me the trouble.”
Something inside my chest tightened—but it didn’t break.
